Devotional #1: Why it is so hard to believe in God…

This is the excerpt for your very first post.

John 1 : 29, NIV

“My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.”

There are reasons why it’s so hard to see Jesus in our mind’s eye. There are reasons why it’s so difficult to believe. If we truly knew Jesus and His true character – forgiving, merciful, graceful, loving, selfless, courageous – we would want Him to be real more than anything. However, God loves his children and He will find them all in the end. That’s us, all of us. Many of us are lost, but do not fret, for He is truly the Good Shepard, and he will not let any one of us perish (Matthew 18 : 14, NIV).

The world, and the enemy within it, has had over 2,000 years to shroud our eyes from the truth. The enemy has done everything to lead us astray, use false prophets and false “men of God”, and countless other tactics to drag the name of God through the mud. The enemy has built up so much shame and stigma around the idea of believing in Jesus, or God, that it is no wonder that the babies born into this world become lost. The enemy has twisted the world so that the belief in Jesus, or God, is condemned and looked at as immoral, insane, or plain ignorant. The conquistadors and early settlers murdered, raped, and pillaged entire civilizations “in the name of the Lord.” This added to a deep stigma that this type of behavior is what God or Christians represent. However, even if the enemy succeeds in keeping a person blinded until the day they die, Jesus is wise and powerful enough to understand that man has been cheated, and save his soul anyway. He is all knowing and all seeing, therefor He can, and will, save those who have been blinded during this lifetime. He can save us all, and that was His intention – his will.

He wasn’t joking when he said He came to save the world. The enemy can fool us in this lifetime, and he often does. But the enemy cannot “snatch them out of my Father’s hand” (John 10 : 29 NIV). Nobody can. God created everything – including the enemy. In the end, God prevails. God is full of mercy. He is kind, gentle, and forgiving. He is fearless, compassionate, and fair. He sees all, hears all, and gives his grace abundantly. That is the true nature of God.
